8 Reasons to Choose Daybreak University
for your Master’s Degree in Counseling...
Especially if you live in California.

If you’re considering a Master’s Degree in Counseling and/or becoming a therapist, Daybreak University is an outstanding choice.
Daybreak students enjoy these eight benefits:

1. Making great therapists is all we do.

Daybreak University specializes in offering degree programs in Counseling, so the expertise of the professors and the University covers all aspects of Marriage and Family Therapy with deep specializations in Couples Therapy, Relationship Therapy, and Sex Therapy. We don’t have a business school or an engineering program...Making great therapists is all we do. Our counseling expertise is deep and wide, so we’ve got you covered. You can review the MA in Counseling specializations below and see the required courses and elective classes available:

2. We have a State of California approved specialization, which meets the education requirements for the Marriage & Family Therapist exam.

If you live in the state of California, Daybreak offers an MA in Counseling (MAC) licensure track to prepare you to sit for the California Licensing exam for Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT). The licensure track coursework meets all of the state of California’s educational requirements to sit for the exam. If you live outside of California, contact admission@daybreak.edu with questions about licensure in your state, province, or country.

3. We run an on-site counseling center to help meet your practical hours requirements for graduation and licensure.

The University has its own on-site counseling center, in Southern California, so you can gain real world experience and practice counseling both individuals and couples while learning to help them navigate their life challenges. Your time spent counseling in the clinic will also help you meet your hourly counseling internship requirements for graduation, and you’ll gain experience that can be used to meet your future MFT licensure minimum hours requirements.

4. All classes are available online through Zoom. Also Face-to-Face and Hybrid classes are available.

All courses are available 100% online, so regardless of what else you’re juggling in life, your Daybreak classes will seamlessly integrate into your life. No need to sit in traffic for hours just to get to class on time. Just find a nice quiet spot to work and join your class (and friends) online. Even summer vacations are easy to accommodate, when all you need is a laptop and a good internet connection to keep up with class work.

5. The financial value proposition at Daybreak University is unbelievable.

The current 2021 MA in Counseling tuition and fees are only $300 per credit or $1,350 per class, with an expected total program cost of only $27,000 for all 90 units. That’s the lowest tuition in California for a MAC degree. Compare that to similar programs that have a total cost from $85,000 and up. No matter how you slice it, there’s an extra $50,000 or more that you get to keep! Most students are able to fund their Daybreak graduate degrees without the need for student loans.

6. Our class offering includes thousands of dollars in Imago formal clinical training, which is not included in other MAC programs.

We have addressed one of the biggest complaints many MAC students have around the world...I need more real world training! Most graduate programs only teach the basics and then students have to spend many thousands more for specialized outside training programs (such as Imago Relationship Therapy or AASECT Sex Therapy Training) in order to feel competent and able to help their clients. Our programs include expert professors, many of which are also Master Trainers in Imago Relationship Therapy and/or Sex Therapy. So, when you graduate from this program you will feel confident, competent, and ready to help individuals, couples, and/or sex therapy clients.

7. We have a genuine warmth and closeness among our students and faculty. You will make real friends all around the world.

The culture of Daybreak University is specifically designed to be a flat structured egalitarian learning environment, rather than the traditional top-down university hierarchy environment that many of us have come to know. As a result, there is a genuine warmth and closeness among students and faculty that is uncommon in higher learning institutions. In addition, our professors and students hail from all over the world, including various parts of Africa, South Korea, Denmark, Canada, France, the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, and even Texas! The richness of these diverse backgrounds provides a wonderful breadth of deep learning opportunities in class. By the time you graduate, you’ll have friends and colleagues all over the world.

8. Daybreak is a nationally accredited University with strategic partnerships, including Imago for couples counseling training and

    AASECT for sex therapy training.

Daybreak is a fully accredited University in the United States as a member of the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS). TRACS is recognized by the United States Department of Education (ED), the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), and the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE).

In California, our MA in Counseling program with a Specialization in MFT meets the statutory requirements for Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, approved by the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). Once you complete our licensure track MFT program, you will meet the educational requirements to sit for the MFT licensure exam.

We are also an Organizational Provider approved by AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists) for sex therapy training and certification.

Finally, our University co-chancellors and distinguished professors, Harville Hendrix, PhD and Helen LaKelly Hunt, PhD are the co-founders of Imago Relationship Therapy. Together, they have written over 10 books, including three New York Times bestsellers. They are actively guiding the couples therapy world and creating a deeper understanding of couples relationship dynamics, while providing clinical techniques, so therapists like you can help couples transform their relationships. Thanks to our partnership with Harville and Helen, the University is chock full of Imago Relationship experts.

You may also be wondering about prerequisites and admissions requirements. If you have a Baccalaureate degree (regardless of major) from an accredited college or university and you maintained a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA, then you’re all set to apply. The Daybreak MA in Counseling does not require any prerequisite course work. We’ll teach you everything you need to know to become an exceptional therapist.

As far as logistics go, most of our academic terms last 10 weeks. Classes meet twice a week for three hours each. Occasionally, we also offer 2 or 3 week intensives where you can quickly knock out a class if your schedule allows. Feel free to read all the details about our academic terms and application deadlines.

We exist for one reason. We’re here to help change the world for the better. Our way of going about it, is to create an army of big hearted therapists, dedicated to changing the world one relationship at a time! We hope you’ll join us.
